Tura, April 21: NPP’s Rakesh A Sangma, who won the GHADC election defeating NCP chief Saleng A Sangma from Babelapara constituency on Wednesday assumed the office of the chairman of GHADC.

In the election for the post, Rakesh secured 16 votes, while Congress nominee Cherak Momin secured 12 votes.

In the house of 29 MDCs, BJP’s Bernard Marak abstained from voting.

Members of ruling and opposition in the council extended their greetings to the new chairman.
