Guwahati, May 17: A safari drive inside Manas National Park turned dramatic after a one-horned rhinoceros aggressively charged at a vehicle carrying tourists in the park’s Bansbari range, with the entire episode captured on video.
The footage, now widely circulating on social media, shows the rhino approaching a stationary safari jeep before repeatedly ramming it with force. At one point, the animal appeared to try to lift or overturn the vehicle using its horn, shaking the jeep as frightened tourists remained seated inside.

The confrontation lasted for several tense seconds before the driver managed to reverse and move the vehicle away from the animal’s path.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and all tourists as well as safari staff escaped safely. Forest officials have also not reported any major damage to the vehicle.
The incident has once again highlighted the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters during jungle safaris in Assam’s protected forests. Wildlife experts say rhinos can turn defensive or aggressive if they feel threatened, startled, or disturbed by vehicles entering too close into their territory.
The Bansbari range of Manas National Park is among the most visited safari circuits in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rich biodiversity, including rhinos, elephants, wild buffaloes and tigers.

This is not the first such encounter reported from the park. A similar incident had surfaced earlier from the Salbari range, where a rhino charged at a safari vehicle and attempted to overturn it before retreating.
