Rymbui to pursue Centre for raising scholarship income ceiling

Must read

SHILLONG, NOV 12: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said that the state government has been urging the Union Ministries of Minority Affairs and Tribal Affairs to raise the income ceiling for central scholarships.

Since 2022, Rymbui said, he has formally requested the two ministries to increase the eligibility threshold from the existing Rs 2.5 lakh annual parental income to Rs 4.5 lakh, a move aimed at widening access for students from economically weaker families.

“The Government of India has not approved it yet. I will follow up with the Centre so that if they increase the threshold, more students will be able to avail the scholarship,” he added.
