Shillong, June 12: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Friday recovered the body of a labourer who was trapped under debris after a soil collapse at a construction site in Mawdiangdiang, East Khasi Hills district.

According to a statement issued by the SDRF, information about the incident was received from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, and immediately dispatched a rescue team led by Inspector T. Tynsong. The team reached the site at around 2:42 pm and began rescue operations.

SDRF’s preliminary assessment found that the labourers were carrying out excavation work for the foundation of a building when a large quantity of filled soil from the upper portion of the site suddenly gave way and collapsed into the excavation pit, trapping one worker beneath the debris.
