Security forces gun down four Kuki militants

Must read

Imphal, Nov 4: Security forces neutralised four cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) — a non-Suspension of Operations (SoO) insurgent group — during an operation in Khanpi village, around 80 km west of Churachandpur, Manipur.

According to reports, the encounter began when the militants opened unprovoked fire on an Army column. The ensuing exchange of fire led to the elimination of four UKNA cadres.

“The action came in response to recent atrocities committed by UKNA members, including the killing of a village chief, intimidation of locals, and attempts to destabilise the region,” said an Army statement.

The UKNA, which is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact signed between the Centre, the Manipur government, and Kuki-Zomi insurgent groups, has been involved in a series of violent incidents in recent weeks — including the killing of a village chief, intimidation of civilians, and efforts to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
