Seven Meghalaya MLAs attend national leadership programme in Bengaluru to strengthen policy and governance skills

Shillong, May 13: Seven legislators from Meghalaya participated in a three-day national leadership programme for state lawmakers in Bengaluru, focusing on governance, public policy, public finance, artificial intelligence, education and youth employment.

The State Legislators Leadership Programme, held from May 10 to 12 at Azim Premji University, was jointly organised by Azim Premji University and PRS Legislative Research to strengthen the capacities of legislators through expert-led sessions and policy discussions.

The Meghalaya delegation included Deputy Speaker Limison D. Sangma and MLAs Mayralborn Syiem, Celestine Lyngdoh, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, Gabriel Wahlang, Ollan Sing Suin and Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah.

The programme featured sessions on legislative effectiveness, public finance management, healthcare, education reforms and emerging governance challenges. Discussions also focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence in sectors such as healthcare, finance and citizen services, besides addressing youth employment, skilling and digital communication strategies.

The initiative aimed to equip lawmakers with policy tools, governance insights and leadership skills to strengthen legislative functioning and improve constituency-level engagement.

Organisers said the programme also encouraged peer learning and exchange of ideas among legislators from different states, with a focus on informed policymaking and effective governance.
