Shillong to host North-East Chief Ministers meet next month, Amit Shah expected to attend

Shillong, June 28: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah is expected to visit Meghalaya next month, possibly to chair the North East Chief Ministers meeting to be held in Shillong city.

While the North East Chief Ministers meeting to be attended by all the Chief Ministers of the eight North Eastern states is scheduled, the state is yet to receive any official communication on the proposed visit of Union Home Minister.

Addressing the pressmen on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad Kongal Sangma said unofficially he has heard that the Union Home Minister is visiting the state but hasn’t received the official communication or itinerary yet.

“When the Prime Minister or the Home Minister of the country is coming we wait for the official communication from their offices. (However), we have not received the official communication or the itinerary…we are waiting for that,” the CM said.

He added that the inter-Chief Ministerial meet will also be attended by the Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police from the region.

He said lot of issues relating to the north eastern region will be discussed including development, law and order, international boundaries, insurgencies and also border issues.
