Tura, 29 April: The GSU, FKJGP, ADE, AYWO, FAF, GSMC AND GHULU organised a sit-in demonstration against the entry of heavy vehicles, dumper in front of DC Office, Tura on Monday morning.
The demonstration started at around 11 a.m. , with the members of the NGOs and pressure groups sitting in front of the office gate with signs and placards. They demanded strict action to be taken against the rash driving and entry of the heavy vehicles in Tura and sought compensation to victims of the recent accidents and the medical expenses to be borne by the owner of the vehicle in question.
The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chellani soon visited the site and interacted with the groups. He explained to them that the administration is looking into every aspect of this matter and has passed the order regarding the issue at hand.

He later handed over the issued order in print to them, persuaded them to assess the issued circular carefully and that the administration is willing to have dialogue if they feel that some more points should be added.
The group ceased their demonstration right after the Deputy Commissioner’s intervention.
