SHILLONG, Oct 10: NPP leader and cabinet minister James K Sangma on Monday said that a sizeable number of sitting legislators will be joining the party ahead of 2023 Assembly elections.
“There are a sizeable number of MLAs who will be joining the NPP very soon,” James told reporters.
On whether all sitting MLAs will be given party ticket, the NPP leader however said, “I think that is a question we need to wait till the elections are declared but these are things I am not at liberty to answer as I am also one of those sitting MLAs who are seeking party ticket. I think that question would be best post to our national and state president.”
He however said that party will announce the list of candidates when elections are declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
He said few candidates have already been declared by the party leaders but majority will be done after the elections have been declared.
James also said that he is not aware if the chief minister and his younger brother Conrad K Sangma is planning to contest from two seats in the upcoming elections. “I would not know you will have to ask him (CM).”
