South West Garo Hills makes bore well rig registration mandatory

Must read

Shillong, July 27: The South West Garo Hills district administration has made registration mandatory for all bore well and tube well drilling rigs operating in the district as part of efforts to regulate groundwater extraction.

The directive, issued by the District Level Committee on Ground Water Resource (DLCGWR), aims to regulate drilling activities and ensure the scientific and sustainable management of groundwater resources amid growing concerns over unchecked extraction.
Under the order, all drilling rig owners and operators must register their equipment with the Office of the Executive Engineer (Water Resources), South West Garo Hills Division, Ampati. They are required to furnish details of the drilling rig, ownership and operator information, technical specifications, registration certificates, and other documents prescribed by the competent authority.

The district administration said the registration drive would help create a comprehensive database of drilling rigs and strengthen monitoring of bore well construction across the district.
Officials warned that failure to comply with the mandatory registration requirement would invite strict legal action under the applicable laws.

The notification was issued under the authority of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the District Level Committee on Ground Water Resource, South West Garo Hills, with all drilling rig owners and operators urged to complete the registration process without delay.
