Guwahati, Apr 11: In a major joint operation, the Guwahati Special Task Force (STF) and Jonai Police seized two large-sized ivory tusks on Wednesday.
An official said that “after receiving intelligence inputs about the illegal smuggling of ivory at Jonai we launched a joint operation and nabbed the smuggler and seized two large-sized ivory from his possession,”.
The operation, was conducted in the remote village of Kemi near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The accused, was identified as Dibas Pait from Kemi village, who managed to evade capture initially but was eventually apprehended.
The officials confiscated ivory tusks, weighing approximately 15 kilograms. It is a significant victory in the ongoing battle against wildlife trafficking.
A motorcycle suspected to be used in the smuggling operation was also seized.
