Jowai, April 11: Together with the rest of the world, Muslims celebrated Eid Al-Fitr in Jowai as a mark to the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar; this does not always fall on the same Gregorian day, as the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities.
During this festival men, women and children would wear special clothes for the occasion and marks the brotherhood and equality amongst neighbours and between the rich and the poor.
Faithfuls from different parts of West Jaiñtia Hills gathered at the Masjid, located at Chahtngit, Iawmusiang, Jowai to offer Namaz under the guidance of the Imam, Maulana Hussain Ahmed.
