Stray dogs blamed for damage to Astro turf field at GBHSS Chandmari in Tura

Must read

Tura, Sept 23: A patch of the Astro Turf football field at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS), Chandmari, was found damaged early Tuesday morning, raising initial concerns of possible vandalism.

However, authorities have clarified that the damage was likely caused by stray dogs.

The torn section of the turf was discovered by local football players who arrived at the field during the early hours and promptly informed the school authorities.

The District Sports Office, in coordination with the school, took swift steps to inspect and repair the affected area.

With no CCTV cameras installed on the premises, the exact cause remains unconfirmed.

However, caretakers believe the damage was caused by stray animals that have previously been seen entering the ground.

Speaking to Hub News, Prakash Basfor, caretaker of the GBHSS Astro Turf field, stated, “This morning we got information from the school authorities and came to check. We have seen dogs entering the field before, so we suspect they may have caused the damage again.”

He added, “We have repaired the damaged white patch, and the field is now ready to be reopened.”

The incident has sparked broader concerns among residents, especially as the Chandmari locality is known to face issues related to illicit drug activities.

Although the recent damage appears to be accidental, it has highlighted the need for better security measures at public sports facilities.
