Kohima, July 22: The Nagaland government has sanctioned ₹70 lakh in ex gratia assistance for families affected by the devastating landslides and flash floods that ravaged Mon district, even as rescue and relief operations continue in the disaster-hit region.

Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, said the assistance has been released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the next of kin of those killed in the calamity.

During his visit to the worst-hit areas on July 20, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also announced an additional ₹10 lakh to support civil society organisations, the District Hospital and volunteers who have been working round the clock in search, rescue and relief operations.

The disaster has so far claimed nine lives, left several others injured and caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure across the district.

Authorities said a massive multi-agency response remains underway, with the District Administration working alongside the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), SDRF, Police, 42 Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, line departments, village and ward councils, civil society organisations and local volunteers.

Teams are continuing search and rescue operations, assessing damage, distributing relief materials and restoring essential services in affected areas.

With the threat of fresh rain and landslides still looming, the District Administration has urged residents to stay away from vulnerable slopes, remain alert and strictly follow official weather advisories.
