Shillong, April 21: In view of the alarming Covid-19 situation in the State, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday held series of meeting with Deputy Commissioners, officials of the health department and also chaired a high-level meeting of cabinet ministers and other senior government officials.

In presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Health Minister A L Hek, and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, the Chief Minister held a meeting with officials to arrive at a decision to take stringent measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.

Briefing the media, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “The situation is very alarming and we urge the public from rest of the State to not visit Shillong.”

“RT-PCR test is made mandatory. Any returnees, any entrants, entering the State will have to undergo RT-PCR test. We will not accept any Covid test certificate issued by different State government and we will do the test ourselves. However, those people who have obtained the completion certificate for both the Covid vaccine doses will be allowed to enter the State,” the Deputy Chief Minister informed.

The vaccination certificate have to be produced at the entry points.

He also urged the public to stop coming to Meghalaya.

Deputy Chief Minister also informed that government has decided to make certain restrictions in East Khasi Hills, including the complete closure of tourist spots till 30th April, 2021, colleges and universities in Shillong will be closed up to 3rd May 2021 except colleges who are exam centres are exempted. Online classes held from the College premises will be permitted.

In East Khasi Hills, Gyms, Clubs, Swimming pools, Gaming parlours, Cinemas, Salons, bars will be shut from 23rd till 30th April, 2021.

He also informed that all Non-Essential Shops will be closed from 26th to 2nd May.
