The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) is all set to stage protest at schools and government functions where the full six‑stanza Vande Mataram is sung, arguing that later verses invoke Hindu deities and amount to “a process of assimilation” contrary to Khasi traditions.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Thursday staged an 11-hour statewide hunger strike, rejecting the Centre’s new immigration order and reiterating that “Assam will not accept any division of foreigners on religious lines.”
Addressing a press conference, Sarma said, "So far, eight people have applied under the newly amended CAA. Out of those eight, only two attended the citizenship interview. We will give a chance to all people whose cases are pending in different courts to apply for CAA."
