In a fresh use of the decades-old Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, the Biswanath district administration has directed a declared foreigner to leave India within 24 hours, paving the way for his deportation to Bangladesh.
The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday issued notices to the Centre and the Assam government on a Muslim woman’s complaint alleging that she was being forcibly deported to Bangladesh despite producing documents to establish her Indian citizenship.
