Along with the rest of the state, the 54th Meghalaya Statehood Day was celebrated on Wednesday at DC Park, Tura, with speakers reflecting on the state’s historical journey, economic progress and the importance of preserving its rich cultural heritage.

North Garo Hills on Wednesday joined the rest of the state in celebrating the 54th Meghalaya Statehood Day, with a district-level function held at the Mini Secretariat in Resubelpara.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said Meghalaya has witnessed significant growth over the last seven to eight years, recording an average growth rate of around ten per cent over the past three years, placing it among the fastest-growing States in the country. However, he emphasised that growth figures alone do not define success.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended Statehood Day greetings to Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur, praising the states’ cultural heritage, development trajectory and the contribution of their people to India’s progress.

The 53rd Anniversary of Meghalaya Statehood Day was celebrated on Tuesday in Jowai which was attended by Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, as the Chief Guest. Also present during the celebration were Guest of Honour, Deputy Chief Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar and Special Guests, Minister, Information & Public Relations, Ampareen Lyngdoh and Ambassador to India, Embassy of Republic of Uzbekistan, Sardor Mirzayusupovich Rustambaev.
