Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal has assured that the issue of alleged overbilling by smart meters at the BSUP housing complex in Nongmensong will be thoroughly looked into, following complaints from residents and concerns raised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Nongmensong Unit.

The KSU Nongmensong Unit has approached Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal, seeking his intervention into the exponential increase in electricity bills among households in the BSUP housing complex in Nongmensong. 

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the overall law and order situation in the state is very much under control.

“We are in the process of preparing the DPR for the balance work,” said Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar adding its too early to provide specific figures, our focus is on completing the plans and moving ahead.

After submitting a memorandum to Dhar, general secretary of the FKJGP Nongmensong Circle Alan Kharkongor said that the prolonged non-completion of government housing projects located at Nongmensong Lumphira intended for the poor have led to the place becoming a hub for various illegal activities, including drug trafficking, theft, attempted murder, and other serious crimes.

The State government on Monday directed the landlords and tenants from seven localities in Shillong to register in the app as mandated by the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016, which seeks to check illegal infiltration into the state.
