Guwahati, Oct 15: Tension gripped the area outside Baksa District Jail on Wednesday after an agitated crowd gathered and hurled stones at the jail gate, where the five accused in the Zubeen Garg death case have been lodged following their remand to judicial custody.
According to sources, chaos broke out soon after news spread that the accused — Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, APS officer Sandipan Garg, and two others — were being transferred to Baksa Jail. Locals, angered by the development, assembled near the main entrance and began chanting slogans demanding justice for the late singer.

The situation quickly escalated when some individuals in the crowd resorted to pelting stones at the jail gate, forcing security personnel to take control. Police and jail authorities promptly reinforced security, deploying additional forces to prevent further unrest.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident. They also stated that the five accused, who had earlier been in CID custody, were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, Guwahati, earlier in the day.
Authorities have stepped up surveillance around the jail premises to maintain law and order as public outrage over the case continues to mount.
