Tura, April 24: The Tura Govt. College Students’ Union (TGCSU) has come out in support of the ACHIK demands for having the winter capital in Tura and taking 1972 as cut-off year for the Roster System implementation.

In a press statement on Monday, TGCSU president Anand Ch. Momin said, “The leaders of Tura Govt. College Students’ Union as a student organisation hereby would like (to) make a stand that the Union supports ACHIK in the demand for Winter Capital and taking 1972 as a cut off date and year for the Roster Implementation.”

Appealing the government for the Winter Capital in Tura, he said it was a long-cherished dream of the fore fathers of Meghalaya Statehood since 1972 and the realisation will be the fulfilment of the visions of the State’s architect of the past. “The Union have no doubt that the winter capital in Tura or the Second Capital in Tura was in agreement by all the state leaders of Meghalaya during the time of creation,” he added.

Momin also reasoned that the rift and disharmony between the three major tribes has existed due to the non-implementation of Winter Capital n Tura as the other major tribes are not exposed to Garo Tribe or Garo Hills.

He further said the second capital was expected to function as the state capital in Tura for 6 months i.e. from October to March every year and the other remaining months in Shillong from April to September.

“Therefore, the Union demands the immediate implementation of winter capital in Tura and the Union supports the demand of ACHIK organization on this issue and would work on collaboration till the realization of the demand,” Momin concluded.
