Shillong, July 10: In a mysterious case, three lifeless bodies suspected to have died on Friday was recovered from the Institute of Science and Bio Resource (ISBR), Umsawli, New Shillong Township on Sunday evening.
The three bodies were discovered by the Rangbah Shnong after foul smell were reported from the rooms inside the research institute.
Soon, the Mawdiangdiang police outpost was informed at around 5.30 pm about the foul smell coming from the three rooms on the first floor of the building.
The trio are employees of the ISBR and has been identified as Sheba Kharbani (40) working as a cleaner, Rupert Donbor Dohtdong (43) and Backstar Kharkrang (30). All three were residents of Mawlai Phudmawri.
The woman’s body was recovered from one room while the other two bodies were found in the adjoining room.
Police ascertained that two of the deceased had gone to collect mushrooms from the adjoining forest on Thursday and the three could have died after consuming the poisonous mushroom. Cooked mushroom was also found from a container in one of the rooms.
Soon after receiving the information, the Crime Scene Unit rushed to the incident site to investigate the case.
Meanwhile, the bodies have been shifted to NEIGRIHMS for post-mortem.
Also, a case of unnatural death has been registered.
