Tinsukia, Jan 12: Tinsukia police seized 603 cartoons of illicit liquor brewed in Arunachal and cash worth Rs. 86,33,800 under Bordumsa police station in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday.

Based on a reliable tipoff, police carried out an operation and successfully seized huge quantity of Arunachal liquor from a twelve-wheeler truck.

Police have arrested eight persons from the truck and brought all of them to Bordumsa police station for investigation.

“A total of 603 cartoon of Arunachal liquor were confiscated from a twelve-wheeler truck, registration no (NL 01AE 5393), coming from Arunachal side. We have also seized cash worth Rs. 86,33,800 lakh and arrested eight persons,” said a police official at Bordumsa police station.

He said, “We have started our interrogation. The liquor was (being) taken to Bihar from Arunachal Pradesh. Many liquor factories are set in Arunachal Pradesh and most of the times the liquor is smuggled to other states.”
