Agartala, July 3: In a key political move, the cabinet of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha was expanded on Thursday with the induction of senior BJP leader Kishore Barman as a new minister. The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Agartala, was presided over by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Saha, top BJP leaders, and members of the existing council of ministers. However, the conspicuous absence of ministers and MLAs from Tipra Motha—the BJP’s key coalition partner—raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about potential strains within the alliance.
Barman’s induction is widely viewed as part of the BJP’s strategy to bolster its political positioning in Tripura by recalibrating regional and community representation in the cabinet. His appointment comes at a time when the party is expected to gear up for future electoral battles and governance challenges.
Although BJP leaders refrained from commenting on the Tipra Motha no-show, political observers suggest it may point to growing unease or unresolved demands within the coalition.
Further announcements regarding ministerial portfolios and any cabinet reshuffles are anticipated in the coming days.
