Agartala, Jan 15: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday visited the residence of slain student Angel Chakma at Nandan Nagar on the outskirts of Agartala, met her family members, and assured them of all possible support from the state government.
Speaking to the media after meeting the bereaved family, Saha said he would once again raise the issue of Angel Chakma’s killing with his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami during an upcoming meeting in New Delhi to expedite the investigation.
Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, was killed in Dehradun in what her family has described as a racially motivated attack.
Later, in a post on X, the chief minister wrote:
“Visited the house of late Angel Chakma at Nandan Nagar, Agartala, and met her grieving parents and family members. I expressed my heartfelt condolences and assured them of all possible support from the State Government. I will also take up the matter with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand to ensure the investigation is expedited.”

Saha said he would be in the national capital on January 18 to attend a two-day meeting of chief ministers scheduled for January 19–20, during which he plans to discuss the case with the Uttarakhand chief minister.
“Chief Minister Dhami had earlier informed me that five of the accused have been arrested and a financial reward has been announced to nab the sixth accused. Since the incident, I have been in constant touch with the Uttarakhand government,” Saha said.
According to the chief minister, the assailants first attacked Angel’s younger brother, Michael Chakma. When Angel intervened to protect him, she was brutally assaulted by the attackers on December 9 in the BJP-ruled state.
The Tripura government has already provided an ex gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to Angel’s family and is considering extending further assistance. The Uttarakhand government has announced an ex gratia of ₹4.12 lakh, while the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has extended financial aid of ₹3 lakh.
Angel Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA final-year student, succumbed to her injuries on December 26 after battling for life for 18 days in a Dehradun hospital.
The family has demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the incident.
