Tura, Mar 7: Tura Christian College on Saturday observed International Women’s Day at its campus with a programme highlighting the theme “Give to Gain.” The event was organised a day in advance as March 8 falls on a Sunday.
The programme, which began at 11:00 AM, featured performances by the college choir and a poetry tribute celebrating the strength and contributions of women.
Retired principal and former Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) member Biana W. Momin attended the event as the chief guest.
In her address, she spoke about the continuing challenges faced by women in society and emphasised that meaningful change does not always come through large achievements.
She said women make significant contributions within families, workplaces, and communities through everyday efforts that often go unnoticed. Momin urged society to recognise and support women’s contributions consistently rather than limiting appreciation to a single commemorative day.
The programme brought together students, faculty members, and staff, who reflected on the role of women in shaping communities and promoting inclusive development.
College authorities said the event aimed to inspire students to value gender equality and acknowledge the vital role women play in social progress.
