Tura tourist taxis halt services amidst statewide 48-hour strike, citing local concerns

Must read

Tura, Jan 5: In response to the recent 48-hour strike of tourist taxis statewide, scheduled from January 5th to January 6th, Tura’s tourist taxi services have also been temporarily suspended. While the primary cause for the strike across the state is the protest against the proposed increase in penalties for hit-and-run cases in the yet-to-be-implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Tura’s taxi services cite distinct local concerns as their reason for the temporary halt.

The MTC bus service is only for Shillong route that is also via Williamnagar, Nongstoin route.

They are concerned about avoiding any damages or threats to the safety of their vehicles, passengers, and themselves during the journey.

In contrast to private tourist taxi services, the government transportation system, including the Meghalaya Transport Corporation in Tura, will maintain its regular night bus services to Shillong and Guwahati. The 48-hour halt imposed by private taxis does not seem to impact the operations of government-run buses.
