Tura’s Durga Puja Visarjan observed with devotion and discipline

Must read

Tura, Oct 2: The town of Tura witnessed a grand yet disciplined conclusion to this year’s Durga Puja festivities as all 31 Durga Puja Committees (DPCs) came together for the Visarjan (idol immersion) ceremony, which began at 1 PM from the Tura parade ground.

Decked in traditional attire, men and women from across the town joined the colorful procession, as idols of Goddess Durga were carefully placed onto trucks to be transported to the immersion ghat in Babupara.

What set this year’s procession apart was the strict adherence to a Silent Zone directive issued by the West Garo Hills District Administration, covering the stretch from the Maternity Hospital to the Brahminpara area.

In a commendable show of discipline, no loudspeakers, dhaks, or dhols were used. Instead, the devotees resorted to soulful group singing, maintaining both devotion and decorum throughout the route.

Security and traffic arrangements were handled by the District Police, with ADCs deployed at key points to monitor the procession and ensure smooth movement.

The District Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Agarwal , personally oversaw the immersion activities at Babupara.

He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Feroze Rahman, MPS, and SP (Fire & Emergency Services), Bruno Sangma, MPS.

The immersion ghat at Babupara had been neatly arranged for the event, with each DPC conducting their idol immersion in an orderly manner.

Speaking to Hub News, Prabin Panthi, the President of the Central Puja Committee (CPC) said,“This year, we had 31 pandals participating. The administration had declared a Silent Zone, and we instructed all DPCs to strictly follow the order. We are happy to see that everyone complied with respect and understanding.”

The CPC has also announced that the clean-up of the immersion ghat will be carried out on the morning of October 3, ensuring environmental responsibility alongside spiritual observance.

This year’s visarjan was a fine example of how tradition and regulation can go hand-in-hand — a harmonious blend of faith, civic sense, and community spirit.
