Two hardcore Ulfa (I) cadre apprehended in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, Oct 2: Two hardcore Ulfa(I) cadres were apprehended by security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Sunday.

After getting reliable inputs, a joint team of Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh police launched an operation and apprehended two Ulfa (I) cadres.

According to sources, the two hardcore insurgents who crossed over the Indo-Myanmar border are trying to make their way to Assam in a bid to carry out subversive activities.

The apprehended cadres have been identified as self-styled private Nilutpal Asom, alias Monjit Gogoi, and self-styled private Upen Asom, alias Ruhini Gogoi; both are residents of Assam and were recruited last year.

According to the police, weapons and ammunition were recovered from the two militants.

Despite the long and porous Indo-Malaysian border, the security forces have been trying to curb their influx.

“This year alone, there have been numerous apprehensions and surrenders of ULFA (I) cadres in the southern areas of Arunachal Pradesh, which has dealt a serious blow to the activities and hierarchy of the banned outfit,” said a police source.

Militants known to have bases in Myanmar,  have been trying relentlessly to cross into the the Indian territory to carry out subversive activities.As the general elections are slated to be held next year, this trend has increased in a bid to disturb the process.
