Shillong, July 22: Two minor girls from Tlongpleng village under the Balat area in East Khasi Hills have gone missing after reportedly boarding a bus to Mawsynram but instead arriving in Shillong on Wednesday morning.
According to the family, the girls boarded a bus from the Balat area for Mawsynram. However, they reportedly missed their intended stop and instead arrived in Shillong, where they were last seen getting off at Anjalee Station near Iew Mawlong.
The missing girls have been identified as Mebaaihun Thongni (11) and Mebariiaka Thongni (12), both residents of Tlongpleng village.

Family members said both girls were carrying black bags when they were last seen. Mebaaihun is described as having a fair complexion, shoulder-length straight dark brown hair and is about 4.8 feet tall. Mebariiaka also has a fair complexion, shoulder-length straight brown hair, and is approximately 4.5 feet tall.
Confirming the incident, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the police have launched a search operation even though a formal complaint have not been filed yet.
“Yes, we are looking for them,” the SP said.
The family has appealed to the public to immediately inform the nearest police station or contact them if anyone spots the two girls. Anyone with information may also contact the family at 9856525958.
