Shillong, Jan 27: Deputy Chief Minister incharge District Council Affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong announced that the government will soon decide on the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
“Hopefully, very soon you will know about that. Once the government and cabinet takes a decision, you will know,” Tynsong told reporters on Tuesday.
Addressing speculation about postponing the election, Tynsong said, “The question of postponement doesn’t arise because the term of the GHADC will end on April 18. So, before that, the election process has to be completed.”
Regarding the demand for conducting SIR exercise in Garo Hills, Tynsong said it falls under the Election Commission’s purview. “The moment we receive the notification, we have to implement it, and I think that’s a welcoming step,” he added.
