Shillong, Feb 20: Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has expressed grief and shock over the sudden demise of Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon, a founding member and colleague in the party.

“With grief and shock we learn of the sudden demise of one of our colleagues, members and the founding members of the Voice of the People Party,” Basaiawmoit said on Friday, adding that the party never expected Dr Syngkon’s passing, given his good health.

“We knew him as a healthy person. When the news broke out that he fell on the ground and remained unconscious, we were really worried and we were saddened to learn that he could not make it and passed away from this world… As a party, we are in grief, we are in shock,” he said.

Basaiawmoit expressed faith that God would fill the void left by Dr Syngkon’s passing. “We hope that God will not allow this place which he has occupied to remain void forever, to remain empty and we will have a replacement where God will fill up this void,” he said.
