Must read

ShillonG, Feb 20: Chairman of the Meghalaya State Food Commission DP Wahlang on Friday emphasized the need to maintain the quality and quantity of food grains distributed through Fair Price Shops and urged beneficiaries to report any grievances.

Addressing a regional camp to bolster the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Meghalaya, Wahlang said, “We are here to ensure that no eligible person is denied food.”

The commission is working to oversee the implementation of food security schemes through various departments, including Food & Civil Supplies, Education, and Social Welfare.

Under the ration system, Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households receive 35 kg of food grains per month, while Priority Households receive 5 kg per person free of cost.

The camp also highlighted the importance of supplementary nutrition through Anganwadi Centres and the promotion of kitchen gardens.

“Last-mile governance is crucial to ensure benefits reach remote areas,” Wahlang stressed.

Officials presented updates on NFSA implementation, including E-KYC compliance, supply chain management, and ration card services. The event concluded with a cultural performance and an award for the Best Performing Fair Price Shop dealer.

The Meghalaya State Food Commission said it is committed to ensuring that no eligible citizen is denied food, and the regional camp is part of its efforts to strengthen the implementation of the NFSA.
