Shillong, Feb 20: In a major step to curb the rising number of fire incidents, the Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, has ordered comprehensive fire safety audits for all categories of establishments across the district.
The directive comes amid growing concerns over fire outbreaks in residential, commercial, educational and office buildings in recent months.
According to the order, the mandatory audits will cover commercial establishments, educational institutions, hospitals, government offices, assembly areas and other public buildings. The move is aimed at strengthening preventive measures, reducing fire risks, and enhancing overall public safety.
All concerned establishments have been instructed to obtain a Fire Clearance Certificate or Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the earliest. Applications can be submitted through the official online portal at investmeghalaya.gov.in.
Those requiring assistance may approach the office of the Superintendent of Police (Fire & Emergency Services).
The DDMA has urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the authorities to ensure strict compliance with fire safety norms and to safeguard life and property in the district.
Officials indicated that enforcement and monitoring will be stepped up in the coming weeks to ensure adherence to the directive.
