SHILLONG, MAR 16: West Garo Hills police on Monday rejected a widely shared Facebook post that accused officers of misconduct during a search in Garo Hills, calling the video misleading and urging the public not to be misled.
“It is clarified that the house search was conducted strictly as per the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS). The search was led by a senior police officer, under proper videography and in the presence of independent witnesses, following all legal procedures,” West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma said in a statement.
Family members were present and accompanied officers throughout, he added.
“The said video post appears to have been circulated with malafide intention to mislead the people and spread false information against the Police Department,” the SP said.
Anyone seeking verification may approach the district police through the proper channel to view the official recording.
“West Garo Hills District police remain committed to maintaining transparency and upholding the rule of law while performing its duties,” the SP added.
