Shillong, March 16: The North Garo Hills district administration banned weapons, unlawful assemblies and group movement toward West Garo Hills, where a curfew is in force, citing credible inputs that travel through the district could escalate violence.
The district magistrate Dr Abhishek Saini invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to prohibit carrying lathis, sticks, stones or firearms, and to forbid assemblies of five or more persons near inter‑district boundaries, highways and routes leading to West Garo Hills.
Group movement, processions and rallies intended to proceed there are barred.
Police are directed to regulate movement and deny entry to anyone suspected of intending to disturb peace.
The order excludes officials on duty, security forces, emergency services and those with valid essential‑purpose justification.
Violations will face penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, it warned.
