Dibrugarh, Apr 4: The Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal campaigned for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections at various places in the Margherita Assembly constituency.
The senior leader from BJP was accorded warm reception by the people as Sonowal visited North Margherita Rangamancha, Nagapathar Rangamancha, Udaipur Rangamancha, Lidu Railway Theatre among others.
Sarbananda Sonowal also joined people in a 5 kms long march from Ward No 10 to Ward No 1 in the Margherita town.
Speaking on the occasion, the senior leader of BJP, Sarbananda Sonowal, “The Congress is synonymous with the Gandhi family; it hasn’t transcended beyond that. This party’s reputation in India revolves around corruption, nepotism, and fostering division. The people of Assam has endured unrest, rampant corruption and discontent during the Congress era. The injustices inflicted upon the Assamese people by the Congress remain unforgettable. Who will hold accountable those who seek refuge behind the Congress for the security of the people? I entrust everything to the public. I am confident that those who want to piggyback on Congress will fall flat in the court of people’s will, as people will pull them down.”
Addressing the people, the BJP candidate for the No 13 Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, Sarbananda Sonowal said, ”You’ve entrusted me with the roles of an MLA from Moran, elected me as an MP from Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur. With your blessings, I’ve served as Chief Minister of Assam once and as a Union Minister twice. However, I can confidently affirm that regardless of my positions, I’ve never wavered in upholding my national conscience. Reflecting on the past three decades, my tenure as Chief Minister underscores a significant chapter. I urged the Central Government to elevate Sivasagar district into a premier heritage site of Assam. Our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji wholeheartedly supported this initiative. Additionally, we’ve initiated a project in the Charaideo hills to honour the legacies of 42 Ahom deities.”
Criticising Congress for their inaction to recognise the pride of Assam for long, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Repeated appeals were made to the Congress government to confer the Bharat Ratna upon the globally acclaimed artist Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika, even posthumously. However, due to a lack of goodwill, these requests went unheeded. Despite Dr. Manmohan Singh serving as Assam’s representative for 23 years, he remained conspicuously silent on pressing issues affecting the state. To those who have voiced genuine concerns about my actions, I want to highlight the accomplishments achieved during my tenure, including the completion of projects like the Bogibeel Bridge, Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, the second bridge at Saraighat, and the Gas Cracker project. Special funds were allocated to revive the Namrup fertilizer plant with setting up of two Nano Fertiliser plants,”.
