Workshop on Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti at NEHU

Shillong, Oct 14: The inauguration of the three-day workshop on Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti, organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in association with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), was held on Tuesday.

The workshop, scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2025, has participation from universities across India, including North-Eastern Hill University, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, The English and Foreign Languages University, Shillong Campus, Banaras Hindu University, Banaras, Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur and Cotton University, Guwahati, among others.

Prof. Manash Pratim Goswami, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, NEHU, started the proceedings of the workshop with a welcome speech.

Prof. Utpal Kumar Dey, Dean of the School of Economics, Management & Information Sciences (SEMIS), North-eastern Hill University, Shillong (NEHU), addressed the participants with his words of wisdom.

He appreciated the initiative of the department in providing a platform for scholars to gain hands-on experience with digital research tools, fostering methodological rigour and innovation.

Dr Uma Shankar Pandey, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Surendranath College, Kolkata, was invited as the resource person for the workshop.

He highlighted on how ATLAS.ti facilitates systematic data organisation, coding and interpretation, making complex qualitative analysis more efficient and insightful.

Prof. Bhagirathi Panda, Honorary Director of ICSSR-NERC, emphasised the growing relevance of qualitative research in the social sciences and the need for researchers to equip themselves with advanced analytical tools like ATLAS.ti.

The three-day programme aims to build research competencies in qualitative data analysis, equipping scholars and faculty members with practical skills to handle large-scale textual and visual data and strengthening interdisciplinary research practices in the region.
