SHILLONG, APR 24: Work on the ₹265-crore Phlangwanbroi-Ranikor road has commenced, with earth cutting in progress from both ends, UDP legislator from Mawsynram Olan Sing Suin said on Friday.
“The road for which we have received sanction of ₹265 crore is from Phlangwanbroi to Ranikor 18, which connects to the State Highway,” Suin said.
He added that “work on this road is progressing well” with machines deployed on different stretches. “It began with machines carrying out earth cutting, moving down from Phlangwanbroi and moving up from Ranikor 18,” he said.
“I hope that once this road is completed there will be changes in our area.”
The 47-km stretch will be developed as an intermediate road with a width of 55 meters, the MLA said.
“From this road, ₹265 crore has been earmarked as per the tender, excluding the Umpung bridge because for this we are still appointing a consultant to specially design and build the Umpung bridge, and for this we will seek funds from the World Bank,” Suin said.
On land acquisition, Suin said no compensation would be paid to landowners. “For this road we cannot give land compensation to the landowners because I see that this road is adequate as we have it,” he said.
“People have already settled with the PWD that they are giving the land freely and there is no difficulty in obtaining the width of the road,” he added.
“As per the record available, we have also received all the land compensation.”
