Guwahati, Aug 8: In a fresh crackdown on illegal immigration, Assam Police on Friday apprehended and pushed back 10 Bangladeshi infiltrators from the Sribhumi sector along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Announcing the action on social media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Stern action against illegal infiltration continues! In the wee hours today, @assampolice pushed back 10 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from Sribhumi sector. Attempts to alter Assam’s demography will NOT BE TOLERATED. Borders secured, infiltrators REPELLED!”

The early morning operation was the result of a coordinated effort between Assam Police and border security agencies, which acted swiftly after the infiltrators were detected near the border.

Senior officials confirmed that surveillance and intelligence-sharing mechanisms have been further tightened in the area in response to persistent concerns over illegal migration from Bangladesh.

The Assam government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on infiltration, emphasising that efforts to safeguard the state’s demographic and cultural identity would continue with full force.

This action is the latest in a series of pushback and eviction operations carried out in recent years, as the state ramps up its border enforcement measures.
