2 more held in Manipur over killing of 6 Naga men

Imphal, July 18: A joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Manipur Police and the CRPF on Saturday arrested two more accused in connection with the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four.
The latest arrests come eight days after the first breakthrough in the high-profile case that triggered widespread outrage across Naga-inhabited areas.

The two accused have been identified as Lungoulal Vaiphei and Lunminthang Sitlhou alias Jack, both residents of villages in Kangpokpi district.

Confirming the arrests in a post on X, Manipur Police said the duo was apprehended on July 18 as part of the ongoing investigation into the abduction and murder of the six Naga men.
“Further efforts are on to arrest other individuals connected with the case,” the police said.

The six Naga civilians were abducted on May 13 while returning from a wedding in Kangpokpi district. Their bodies were recovered near Leilon Vaiphei village on June 10, sparking protests, shutdowns and candlelight vigils across Naga-dominated areas, including Dimapur and Shillong.

The latest action follows the arrest of a married couple, Pradip and his wife Ayinghi, from the same Kuki village in Kangpokpi district on July 10. The duo was arrested during what investigators described as a “precise operation” based on credible intelligence.

Investigators said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest other suspects believed to be involved in the killings.
