20 Manipur insurgents surrenders in presence of CM N Biren Singh

Imphal. March 9: At least 20 cadres of various insurgent groups active in Manipur had on Tuesday surrendered along with their arms in front of the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh during a function at Imphal.

According to a government presser, while most of the insurgents, 16, were from Thadou Peoples Liberation Army, two were from the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and one each from People’s Liberation Army and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-Pro)

The surrendering cadres have also handed over 15 arms and 75 assorted ammunition including an AK-56 Rifle, 01 an M15 rifle, an MK33 rifle, an Uzi SMG, lathode gun, a Glock 19 pistol, six 9mm pistols, two 32 pistols and a .22 pistol.

The presser mentioned, that according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs project, Revised Scheme for Surrender-Cum-Rehabilitation of Militants in the North East states, 2018 the surrendered insurgents will receive an amount of Rs 4 lakh each which shall be kept in their bank accounts for three years, the time period that they will spend in a rehabilitation centre. During the three-year plan, the insurgents will also receive a stipend amount of Rs 6 thousand every month.
