A Historic Day as COVID-19 Vaccination rollout in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched India Covid-19 vaccination drive, the world’s largest inoculation exercise against the Novel Corona Virus.

In Meghalaya, the vaccination drive for Covid-19 is being launched at NEIGRIMS Hospital, Shillong. In the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the Hospital Staffs. As the fight against Corona Virus has been over a year which has affected not only the economy of the country but also every citizen’s lives, but the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine is a historic day, said Conrad while talking to reporters at NEIGRIMS.  Conrad added that the rollout of this vaccine is a positive step towards the fight of Covid-19.

CM Conrad said, “We have been fighting Covid-19 in many ways, but with this Vaccination programme and with the rolling out of Covid-19 vaccine is a historic day, a day to be proud, a day that the citizen of the nation and the world as a whole to feel confident that we can overcome this very soon”. Secondly, we should be proud because this vaccine is being produced in the Country itself, he added. Thirdly, the fight against the Covid-19 continues, vaccination programme will continue and will take time to complete. Therefore, the CM urges all the citizens of the State to not take it lightly but to follow the norms, precautions and guidelines given by the Govt of India and the state govt.

 On the first day, 852 health workers will be vaccinated confirmed Chief Minister, while 100 volunteers are being vaccinated in NEIGRIMS as the rest will be done in different parts of the State. CM also congratulate the volunteers for being the first to be vaccinated and being a part of this Historic Day. As mentioned, that there will be two shots in a different phase to be given and the immunity will come in after 45 days post the first vaccine and the second vaccine will come in on the 20th day, per scientific records.

The first phase of vaccination is for the Health Workers, the second phase is for frontline workers and the third phase is for people aged 50 and above.

On being asked about the two districts not included in phase one, CM clarifies that due to connectivity issues, the Govt could not include the names of the two districts on the first day of the launching of the Vaccine, confirming that vaccines will be given in the days to come in the two districts.
