Guwahati, June 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday reacted after the Election Commission of India proposed to retain the number of assembly seats in Assam at 126 and the Lok Sabha constituencies at 14 as it released the draft delimitation for the state.
He also expressed his sadness and said that the Jalukbari constituency he had represented since 2001 would no longer exist.
Also, two of the significant parts of his constituency, Sualkuchi block and Behera block have been taken out of the newly demarcated Jalukbari assembly.
Now, Sualkuchi will be with Hajo and Behera with Kamalpur.
Taking to Twitter, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said,”The draft delimitation published by ECI today stipulate that the current Jalukbari constituency, which I have represented since 2001, will no longer exist as it has been divided into three parts. I am feeling very saddened by this news. However, I welcome the draft paper as it accurately reflects the sentiments of Assam.”

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released its draft proposal for Assam’s delimitation for Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies in the state. Assam has been waitinf for the revision since 1976.
