Guwahatiĺ, Dec 29: After appeals from President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president and former MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has written to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, raising alarm over escalating violence and human rights violations faced by Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
Ajmal’s letter paints a grim picture of the persecution faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, citing incidents of violence, destruction of properties, and attacks on places of worship. He expressed deep concern over the Bangladeshi government’s failure to provide adequate protection, highlighting the fear and insecurity that has engulfed Hindu families in the region.
“The violence has led to tragic loss of life, destruction of homes, and looting of properties. Children are growing up in an environment of fear and uncertainty,” Ajmal wrote, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention.
Calling on the international community to hold Bangladesh accountable, Ajmal urged immediate measures to safeguard lives, religious sites, and properties. He demanded strict punishment for those responsible for the atrocities to deter future incidents and reinforce the rule of law.
“As your office has the power, I specifically implore you to pressure the Bangladeshi government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of Hindu minorities and their places of worship,” Ajmal appealed to the UN.
He also called for global solidarity, emphasizing that human rights are a universal priority. “The Hindu minorities of Bangladesh deserve the support of the international community. Everyone, regardless of their religious beliefs, should have the right to live in peace and security,” he added.
