Agartala, Jan 1: The Albert Ekka Brigade of the Indian Army marked its 56th Raising Day on Tuesday with pride and reverence, beginning the commemorations with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala.
Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks, and civil dignitaries paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. The ceremony honoured the fallen heroes whose courage, sacrifice, and devotion continue to inspire generations of soldiers.
The Raising Day underscored the Brigade’s illustrious legacy of valour, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national service. The Albert Ekka Brigade holds a unique distinction in the Indian Army, having earned two of the nation’s highest gallantry awards in both war and peace, including the only Param Vir Chakra awarded during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
The occasion assumed added significance following the Brigade’s recent relocation to Agartala Military Station. It was from this very location that the formation was launched into the 1971 War under Operation Cactus Lily.
The Brigade played a pivotal role in the historic Battle of Gangasagar, where Lance Naik Albert Ekka of the 14 Guards Battalion made the supreme sacrifice while neutralising a critical enemy bunker that posed a serious threat to Agartala.
For his conspicuous bravery and indomitable spirit, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
Addressing the troops, Brigadier Dheeraj Singh lauded the Albert Ekka Brigade for its exceptional professionalism, operational excellence, and steadfast commitment to duty. He highlighted the Brigade’s vital role in safeguarding national security, maintaining peace and stability in the region, and extending support to civil authorities during emergencies.
The Brigadier exhorted all ranks to uphold the highest traditions of the Indian Army and continue serving the nation with honour, integrity, and selfless devotion.
The Raising Day celebrations concluded with interactions among officers and troops, strengthening camaraderie and esprit de corps, and reaffirming the Brigade’s resolve to remain ever vigilant and prepared to meet future challenges in the service of the nation.
