Tura, Oct 3: The All Garo Hills Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (AGHMPCS) celebrated its Fourth Foundation Day on October 1, at Babadam, drawing a large gathering of stakeholders and members.

The event was graced by Senior Assistant Registrar of Cooperatives, Valentina K Marak, as Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted “concern for the community” as a core principle of the cooperative movement, stressing that unity and collective effort are essential to solving societal challenges. She also distributed awards, with Krimkro Piggery Cooperative Society winning the award for Best Primary Cooperative Society.

Delivering the keynote address, Rev. Dr. Sunny Joseph Marvelil outlined the vision of AGHMPCS to harness the agricultural resources of Garo Hills for prosperity and sustainable growth. He revealed that during the last betelnut season, AGHMPCS and its Primary Societies processed around 600 metric tons of raw betelnut, aggregated and sold over 58 metric tons of dried arecanut, and contributed nearly ₹9 lakh in GST to the state. He stressed that faster growth and development could be achieved only through collective action and shareholder participation, with AGHMPCS serving as a vehicle for business activities.

Dr. Ejitha Sangma, in charge of Babadam dispensary, spoke about animal health and the importance of timely vaccinations, preventive, and curative care. Having worked in Babadam for 13 years, she noted improved awareness in animal care and services. She also presented awards to the best Producer Groups under Rongram block.

Operational Manager of AGHMPCS, Joash Varghese, emphasized the spiritual foundation of the society, stating that it is “love for God’s Kingdom” that motivates people to serve communities like Babadam.

The celebration witnessed participation from around 400 people across Babadam and nearby areas. Highlights of the day included the inauguration of a grocery shop, distribution of cashew saplings under the IFAD GAP Fund and distribution of off-season vegetable seeds to over 200 farmers of Rongram block, sourced through ICAR-IIHR and NEHU’s Department of RDAP.
