Imphal, July 28: Security forces recovered a cache of arms, explosives and communication equipment from the foothills of Seijang Cheirao Ching in Imphal district on Monday during a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
The haul included a .303 rifle, a .22 rifle, three 12-bore single-barrel guns, an anti-riot gun, three mortar shells, two hand grenades, three tear smoke grenades, 43 rounds of live ammunition, five wireless sets and an AK rifle magazine.
Officials said the operation was launched following specific information about illegal arms being concealed in the area.
All the recovered weapons and ammunition have been seized, and an investigation is underway to trace their origin and identify those responsible.
The recovery comes as security forces continue stepped-up search operations across vulnerable and fringe areas of Manipur to crack down on illegal arms, curb anti-social activities and strengthen law and order.
