Arunachal seeks BRO to execute strategic border road project

Must read

ITANAGAR, July 2: Arunachal Pradesh minister Kento Jini has urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to entrust the strategically significant Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road project to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), saying it has the expertise and experience to execute and maintain the vital border corridor.

In a letter to Gadkari, Jini thanked the Union government for declaring the road a strategic road and said the project would significantly strengthen connectivity, national security and the socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh’s seven border districts.

“More than a road, the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road is an umbilical cord that sustains and nourishes life and economic activities in the border areas,” Jini said.

The minister said the BRO possesses unmatched experience in constructing and maintaining infrastructure in challenging border terrain, making it the most suitable agency to implement and maintain the strategically important project.

He pointed out that the road was originally constructed, developed and maintained by the BRO before its implementation was transferred to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in 2014-15.

“Given BRO’s proven credentials in building infrastructure in difficult and sensitive border regions and its deep-rooted presence there, it is best placed to deliver high-quality work in a timely manner and maintain the road for years to come. The strategic nature of this corridor necessitates an organisation with demonstrated capability to ensure timely completion, quality maintenance, national security and sustained regional development,” Jini wrote.

“I therefore earnestly request your kind consideration to designate the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) as the implementing and maintenance agency for the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Strategic Road Project. I am confident that your favourable intervention will greatly contribute to the timely realisation of this nationally significant infrastructure project,” he added.

The minister also reiterated his appeal in a post on X, describing the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road as a lifeline for Arunachal Pradesh’s border districts.
