Guwahati, June 7: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K. Sangma to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the death of a young woman from Assam, Namrata Bora, in a road accident near Nongpoh Police Station in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 4, when a vehicle bearing Assam registration number AS 01 EV 9578 reportedly met with an accident. While four co-passengers sustained minor injuries, Namrata Bora tragically lost her life on the spot.
In a public appeal shared on social media, Sarma stated: “I request Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri @SangmaConrad, to kindly look into a tragic incident… A case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station. However, given the concerns raised by the bereaved family and well-wishers, I request that a fair and impartial enquiry be conducted by a senior police officer to ensure that all facts surrounding the incident are brought to light.”

In fact, the death of Namrata Borah, who is a lawyer in a road accident near Nongpoh on June 4, has spiralled into a case marked by conflicting narratives, rising public suspicion, and mounting calls for justice in Assam and Meghalaya.
Media reports say Mriganka Boruah, one of five people in the car, the group had gone out for refreshments post an IPL match and were returning to Guwahati when their vehicle swerved to avoid a stationary car, resulting in a crash. Namrata, seated on the left side, suffered fatal injuries while others escaped with minor injuries. However, his account has raised questions, particularly about the nature of the impact and the decision of two members to leave the scene.

Adding complexity, a security guard from Namrata’s apartment claimed she called him minutes before the crash, saying she needed to go to a hospital and left with two women, contradicting Mriganka’s version.
Namrata’s father has publicly appealed to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for a thorough investigation, demanding accountability. Meanwhile, scrutiny has intensified around Mriganka, who is not a law student as previously believed, but a businessman known for running guesthouses and leading a flashy lifestyle.
In fact what began as a late-night outing is now a high-profile case that continues to baffle as more revelations are coming to light.
